When I left my full-time healthcare job to travel in an RV with my daughter, the biggest question I faced was:

“How are you going to make money on the road?”

It’s a fair question—and one I asked myself a hundred times. The truth is, funding RV life looks different for everyone, but it is absolutely possible to earn an income while living your travel dreams.

In this post, I’m sharing how I support full-time RV life, plus a list of tried-and-true income streams for fellow mamas (or anyone!) ready to hit the road full time.

1. Remote Work & Freelancing

If you already have professional skills, you might be closer to remote income than you think. Many jobs have shifted online, especially in fields like:

• Healthcare admin or telehealth
• Writing and editing
• Graphic or web design
• Virtual assistance
• Social media management
• Bookkeeping

2. Start a Blog or YouTube Channel

I started Mom On Wheels as a way to share our journey—and it’s grown into a community (and income stream) through:

• Affiliate marketing (Amazon links, gear recommendations, etc.)
• Sponsored content and partnerships
• Ads or YouTube monetization

Tip: Focus on building trust and connection before income. Serve your audience first—earn later.

3. Sell Digital Products or Courses

If you have a hobby or skill, turn it into a download or course! Great options include:

• Travel planners or packing lists
• RV maintenance checklists
• Homeschooling guides or printable activities for kids
• Budget templates or eBooks

Use platforms like Etsy, Gumroad, or your own website.

4. Seasonal or Campground Work

Many full-time RVers pick up workamping jobs—temporary jobs at campgrounds or national parks in exchange for pay and a free campsite. Roles can include:

• Camp hosts
• Groundskeeping
• Front desk/office help
• Retail or food service

5. Run an Online Shop

Ecommerce is totally mobile-friendly! Whether you resell vintage goods or make handmade items, you can set up shop with:

• Etsy or Shopify
• Amazon Handmade
• Facebook Marketplace (for local drops)

Some RV moms even run print-on-demand shops with custom t-shirts, mugs, or stickers.

6. Remote Teaching or Tutoring

Love helping others learn? Teaching ESL, tutoring K-12 subjects, or even teaching music or art virtually is a great fit for RV moms.

7. Pet Sitting or Dog Walking (Yes, Seriously!)

If you’re staying in pet-friendly RV parks or city areas, apps like Rover or Wag can help you earn a little extra with flexible hours. It’s great for active moms and kids who love animals!

8. Short-Term Gigs & Apps

Don’t underestimate the power of short-term work:

• Instacart or DoorDash (if you’re parked in a city)
• User testing websites (get paid to test apps/sites)
• Market research or surveys (not big $$, but it adds up)

9. Partner With Brands You Love

Once you’ve built a following or niche, brands may want to collaborate through:

• Sponsored Instagram posts
• Blog features
• Affiliate programs

I recommend only working with brands you truly use and love—it keeps your content authentic and your readers trusting.

Final Thoughts: Get Creative, Stay Flexible

RV life teaches you to adapt—and that goes for income, too. Some months are better than others, and that’s okay. The key is having multiple small streams that flow together into something sustainable.

Whether you freelance, teach, blog, or serve coffee at a campground lodge—you’re showing your kids how to live fully, bravely, and on your own terms.
